Northallerton business boosts Darlington scouts’ fundraising
~~A scout group in Darlington, raising money for good causes, has received a welcome fundraising boost from a local car dealership.
The 12th Darlington Scout Group holds a range of fundraising events throughout the year and will host a family quiz night in April to raise more money.
To help boost their appeal, Northallerton-based car dealership, Simon Bailes Peugeot, is sponsoring the event and paying for the hire of the room for the event
MD of the company- which has dealerships in Northallerton, Stockton-on-Tees and Guisborough, Simon Bailes, was himself a Queen’s Scout, considered to be the highest scouting accolade, and was keen to support the group’s fundraising ventures.
Simon said: “The scouting movement is something close to my heart and I remember my years as a youngster with them very fondly. I was really impressed with the group’s enthusiasm for fundraising and the initiative they’ve shown in working to get local sponsors. I’m really pleased we can help them out to raise as much money as possible on the night of their quiz.”
The 12th Darlington Scout Group meets weekly at Elm Ridge Church Hall in Darlington, offering a range of physical and intellectual challenges and events for girls and boys aged six to 14.
Roy MacDougall, scout leader, added: “Our group works really hard to organise fundraising activities and it can be quite tough to get community support in the current economic climate. We’re all really grateful that Simon Bailes Peugeot has agreed to sponsor our quiz as this means that everything we raise goes towards charity.”
Throughout 2013, staff at Simon Bailes Peugeot raised thousands of pounds for local good causes by supporting various events. Highlights included sponsoring the Boundary 500 Santa Ride and supporting the BBC’ Children in Need Appeal by taking part in the UK’s Largest Car Wash.
