Are you delaying a probate application?  Act now before fees escalate.

A regional solicitor is recommending that anyone who needs to apply for probate acts quickly as the court fees will rise considerably from 22nd April, 2014.

Andrew Steel, Wills and Probate specialist with Tilly Bailey & Irvine Solicitors explained that court fees for probate applications through a solicitor are due to rise from £45 to £155 immediately after Easter, while personal applications, that is those not through a solicitor, are due to rise to from £105 to £215. (Anyone who applies through a solicitor will also be liable for the solicitor’s fees).

He said: “There is quite a jump in fees later this month, but there is still time to apply through a solicitor if you act now. A probate application can be processed quickly, and any that we receive this week will be processed before the court fees rise.

“Often people will take their time in applying for probate, but right now it is well worth your while to act quickly.”
