Cable’s anti-corruption laws, both surprising and promising
Following Vince Cable’s transparency and trust discussion paper, and the government’s measures to clean up the UK’s investment climateI got an interesting email in my inbox.
It said that the proposals will be “damaging” to UK business, that “in the likely event that Asian and US financial markets do not adopt these proposals with the same speed and scope, there is a real danger that significant investment to the UK will be at risk.
“This will ultimately undermine the Government’s efforts to support investment and growth.”
This opinion, strangely enough, is something I would expect more of a non-interventionist Republican than a UK business organisation, and a schoolyard argument at best.
Britain and British business should be leading the way, in terms of policy and attitude as well as turnover and growth, not merely following our international counterparts.
Transparency in business invites confidence creates greater stability in the long term both globally and domestically. But what does Yorkshire think? Email me at clare.burnett@bdaily.co.uk with your thoughts.
