Thirsk’s Severfield-Rowen completes major Paris and Glasgow projects

Severfield-Rowen the Thirsk-based structural steel specialist, has completed work on two new landmark developments, at the Paris Philharmonic Orchestra and the Clyde Gateway ‘Smartbridge’.

The installation of the 3,890 tonnes of steelwork on the 2,400 seat Philharmonie de Paris has set the stage for the full completion of the development which is due next year.

Severfield-Rowen worked with French architect Jean Nouvel to create a structural steel solution for the dedicated music facility, offices, library and exhibition space.

Severfield-Rowen has also just completed the build and installation of the £5 million pedestrian and cycle ‘Smartbridge’ for the Clyde Gateway’s regeneration project in Glasgow’s East End.

The Smartbridge gets its name from the fact that it incorporates cable ducting for power and high-speed broadband lines.

In addition, it has the capacity to carry heating to all social housing on the north bank, fed remotely from the south side, and will be officially opened in July.

Commenting on these latest projects successes, Severfield-Rowen’s chief executive Ian Lawson said: “We take great pride in the fact that so many of the steel structures we create have become iconic landmarks on the urban skyline and these two latest projects are certain to do the same.

“The experience, expertise and commitment of our workforce is second to none and ensures that we continue to lead the way in world class design, fabrication and installation.”

Among other major projects in the Severfield-Rowen portfolio are the London 2012 Olympic Stadium, The Shard, Wimbledon Centre Court roof, Heathrow Terminal 5, the Leeds Arena, the Etihad Stadium as well as many important commercial buildings in London, warehousing complexes, large distribution centres and sports stadiums.
