MBNA staff and Macmillan Cancer Support join forces at Chester Races
A team of MBNA staff joined forces with Macmillan Cancer Support volunteers at Chester Races last week to help raise £2,300 for the charity.
Eight employees from across the Chester-based firm’s departments teamed up with nine fundraisers from Macmillan and Chester University to collect donations from generous race-goers at last week’s Ladies Day meeting at Chester Racecourse (May 8).
Thousands of spectators braved the wet weather at the Roodee course, witnessing jockey Ryan Moore claim victory in the annual MBNA Chester Vase, for the second year running, on his mount, Orchestra.
Mike Randall, Business Continuity Consultant at MBNA, said: “The total raised is fantastic and I would like to say well done to all the volunteers who braved the elements to help raise the funds and thank you to those who kindly donated.
“The MBNA Chester Vase has featured many exciting races over the years and this was no exception. The wet weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits too much - there was a great sense of camaraderie and fun amongst the volunteers - and it helped that the race was won by a nose for an exciting finish.”
Sarah Page, Macmillan Fundraising Manager for Cheshire added: “I would like to say a huge thank you to MBNA and Chester Racecourse for the collection, raising £2,300 is a fantastic achievement! A big thank you must also go out to all the volunteers across Cheshire who came together to help to collect in the rain! The money raised will help Macmillan to ensure that no one faces cancer alone so thank you all very much for your support.”
