Taylor&Emmet shows support for Dementia Week
Sheffield’s Taylor&Emmet LLP is marking Dementia Awareness Week by offering local residents a 20 per cent discount on the creation of a Power of Attorney
Until the end of the month, the firm’s probate experts are helping clients reduce the cost of nominating someone to act on their behalf if they are not able to manage their own affairs.
Taylor&Emmet’s initiative for Dementia Awareness Week, which runs from May 19 to 23, forms part of its support of nominated charity, The Alzheimer’s Society, for whom the firm is fundraising this year. A ‘Denim for Dementia’ day is planned for Friday, along with a number of sporting challenges throughout the summer.
A Dementia Friends talk was held at Taylor&Emmet’s Arundel Gate headquarters to increase awareness of the condition among staff and challenge popular misconceptions of Dementia. Led by Kerry Bentley from the Sheffield branch of The Alzheimer’s Society, attendees pledged to pass on key messages from the event, via social media and their local community. The firm is now planning a second talk at its Cockertons office in Bakewell.
Diana Smart, head of Taylor&Emmet’s wills and probate team, said: “No one wants to accept that dementia may strike, but we can ensure that if it does happen, our relatives won’t be subjected to the additional stress of court action for permission to handle our affairs. If we learned anything from our Dementia Friends talk it is that there are no guarantees it won’t affect us and it is important to plan for the future, whatever it may bring.”
