Students raise money for Barnardo's with market event
Students and staff at the City of Liverpool College have raised more than £700 for Barnardo’s by holding a student market with stalls, competitions, movies and pamper treatments.
The market was held at the college’s main campus building, the Learning Exchange on Roscoe Street.
There were 30 stalls offering everything from toys and jewellery to baking goods and mini makeovers. There was also a spot the ball competition with Everton Football Club and a raffle where entrants could win signed Liverpool and Everton football shirts.
Colette Mckenna, Head of Employability at the college said: “I am really proud of the students and how much they’ve raised. All the money will go to help Barnardo’s
Action with Young Carers Project which was set up to support young carers living in Liverpool. The young carers are young people under 18 who provide care for a family member with an illness or disability.“
She added: “The market event has also been a great learning experience for students, teaching them how to organise events, deal with the public and showcasing the skills they have learnt at the college.”
Ian Kendall from Barnardo’s said: “The Action with Young Carers Project is all about giving young people with care responsibilities advice and support so they can also pursue their own life goals and have some of their own time outside of caring for a relative. The money raised by the students will help fund some of this work. We also have a number of college students who have volunteered their time to help with the project and provide support for young carers in Liverpool, which is great to see.”
