Approaching an interview the right way
Temp-Team want to help you secure a job that you really want! We match candidates to organisations, not only through skills and capabilities, but also by combining personality and ethics.
We know that interviews can be a daunting prospect: according to a recent survey of 2000 employers, 33% claimed that they knew within 90 seconds of an interview if they would hire that person. To help you improve your chances of getting a job, we’ve put some interview tips together:
Do your research
If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. You will be asked specific questions about the company, so make sure you’ve done your homework. Look on the company’s website for the latest news and products and take a look at the latest developments that are happening in the industry so you can converse with confidence.
Practice your answers
Every job interview will follow a different format but there are some questions that almost always crop up. You can prepare answers to some of the most common questions such as what are your personal strengths and weaknesses, and you should be able to explain why you would be the best person for the job.
Look the part Appearances shouldn’t matter, but they do! 65% of the employers surveyed said clothes could be the deciding factor between two candidates. Make sure your shoes are polished, your clothes fit correctly and that your accessories are subtle. Dressing one level above the job you’re applying for demonstrates ambition!
Stay calm Good preparation is the key to staying in control. Plan your route, allow extra time for any unexpected delays and get everything you need to take with you ready the night before. Remember to speak clearly and smile: your interviewers are just normal people and they may be nervous too!
Nonverbal communications
Scientific research shows that our communication is primarily determined by nonverbal communication! That includes your posture, your body language and, perhaps most importantly, your eye contact. Appropriate eye contact speaks confidence and self-esteem—important assets in any good employee and always thank the recruiter for the invitation and his or her time.
Ask questions You should always have some questions to ask. This demonstrates to your interviewer that you are interested in the position. Prepare a minimum of five questions, some which will give you more information about the job, and some which delve deeper into the culture and goals of the company.
At Temp-Team, people matter, and we spend time getting to know what’s important to you. We are an Investor in People and we now have a Health and Wellbeing accreditation which extends to how we treat our candidates.
