Changing Lives with a family friendly festival
National charity Changing Lives is taking part in the annual Teams Community Festival on Saturday 14th June from 11am. The Festival which is organised by Gateshead Council, will feature fun events for the whole family including live bands, animal displays, games, tombolas, food and a variety of stalls by organisations in the local community. The festival is to be officially opened by Gateshead’s Deputy Mayor Neil Weatherly. Changing Lives is a national, registered charity which provides specialist support for thousands of vulnerable people and their families, every month.
Their Young People’s Accommodation Service based in Teams, Gateshead, will be featuring a stall at the festival. Working closely with Gateshead Council, the accommodation service provides temporary accommodation and support for young people experiencing homelessness aged between 16 and 24 years. Whilst living there, residents gain life skills and incorporate sport as a key tool to support residents and promote a positive and healthy lifestyle.
Michael Charlton, Changing Lives Support Worker at the Young People’s Accommodation Service said:
“It’s great to be involved in events like the Teams Community Festival as it’s good to get out and about to raise awareness of the charity within the local community. It gives people the opportunity to find out more about our service, the people and about the great work that we do changing lives everyday.”
Organiser of the event, local Councillor, Gary Haley fully supports the idea of organisations promoting themselves through local community festivals.
He said: “Community festivals are a great way for local groups to get together to raise funds, promote their organisations and to meet local people. Each year we hold two festivals, one in Teams and another in Dunston, and both are popular events in the community. As a local Councillor for Dunston and Teams I am proud to have been involved in both events for the past few years and I’m looking forward to another successful event in Teams this Saturday.”
The Teams Community Festival is taking place on Saturday 14th June from 11am until 2pm at the Redheugh Football Club, Bolam Street, Eslington Park, Eslington Pavillion, Gateshead, NE8 2TQ. All welcome.
