Emirates cancel 70 aircraft deal with Rolls Royce
Airline Emirates has cancelled an order for 70 A350 aircraft with Rolls Royce - a move that will cost the British manufacturer an estimated £2.6 billion hole in its order book.
In a note to shareholders this morning Rolls Royce said it was “dissappointed” by the news but was confident it would fill the delivery slots, which start towards the end of this decade, with other airline’s orders.
Emirates order was placed in 2007 as part of a $8.4 billion deal that included 120 aircraft and Rolls Royce’s TotalCare services.
Despite the setback, the firm said demand for A350 aircrat was still strong, and in December 2013 its order book stood at £71.6 billion.
Just this week Rolls Royce announced it had secured a £50 million contract to supply components for vessels used by Edison Chouset Offshore.
