Mechan looks to continent to boost product range
Rail depot equipment specialist, Mechan, is strengthening its links with Europe to expand and enhance its range of maintenance products.
The Sheffield-based manufacturer has secured deals with French and German companies to become their sole supplier to the UK and Irish markets.
Mechan is adding wheel lathes and wheel presses from France’s Sogema Engineering to its product portfolio, to complement the under car handling systems it designs in house. This specialist equipment is used in the production and maintenance of wheelsets and can be adapted to any type of rail vehicle, from light metro to freight trains.
In a bid to promote healthier depot environments, Mechan is introducing exhaust extraction systems from German firm, Blaschke, which capture diesel emissions and ensure all hazardous gas is disposed of safely. Again, the products can be tailored to any locomotive and reduce the energy consumption and noise levels associated with this type of equipment.
Richard Carr, Mechan’s managing director, said: “We are always looking for innovative products from other manufacturers that can benefit our home markets. These latest additions to our portfolio are both at the forefront of their respective areas of expertise and are developed by companies that share our commitment to quality, safety and reliability. I believe they are an excellent accompaniment to our range and we look forward to introducing clients old and new to Sogema and Blaschke.”
