Persimmon staff scale three summits to raise thousands for charity
A team of twenty staff from Persimmon Homes scaled the summits of the three highest mountains in Wales at the weekend, raising over £4k for the Wales Air Ambulance.
The staff, who all work for Persimmon Homes Wales, which has its Head Office in Llantrisant, near Cardiff completed the Three Peaks of Wales challenge in record time - all in one day.
The group were determined to complete the climbs and prepared themselves by regularly trekking up local mountains in South Wales.
Starting at 3am on Saturday morning (28 June), the group ascended Snowdon first, before travelling to Cadair Idris in mid-Wales, and then on to Pen y Fan in the South.
Through sponsorship the staff have raised a massive £4k for their nominated charity of the year, the Wales Air Ambulance. The money raised will go towards the running and maintenance of three helicopters that operate across the country.
Martin Smith, managing director of Persimmon Homes East Wales who organised the challenge, said: “We had a superb time, the weather was excellent and the team effort was immense – everyone helped each other and it was great for moral and team building.
“It felt very surreal trekking up Snowden in the middle of the night, but when we reached the summit, the sun was rising and the sky was clear – it was an amazing view.
“Cader Idris was by far the hardest mountain to climb, it was even harder going down than it was walking up. It was very tough on our legs, but we made it and I’m incredibly proud of our team.
“We’re delighted that we’ve been able to raise over four thousand pounds for the Air Ambulance which provides a vital service to people across Wales – thanks to everyone who sponsored us.” For more information visit www.persimmonhomes.com
