MBNA donation brings music to the ears
A community orchestra in Chester has invested in a range of new equipment for rehearsals and live performances after receiving a £1,000 donation from MBNA.
The Jan Modelski Community Orchestra in Great Barrow received a grant through The MBNA Foundation – the lender’s charitable giving arm – and used the money to buy a conductor stand, music stands for the players and music scores including The Magnificent Seven, Beethoven’s 3rd Symphony and The Westside Story.
Roanne Paul, Chair of the community orchestra committee, said: “On behalf of the orchestra, I would like to thank MBNA for their support. The orchestra continues to grow and evolve and we now have over 70 active members. Everyone can now have their own stand whilst reading music, which helps all the players – especially the beginners – to play with confidence and consistency.
“The orchestra is enjoying the challenge of new music and we are so pleased with the outcome. MBNA have benefitted our community and hopefully they will enjoy our music in future concerts.”
Ian O’Doherty, Chief Executive of MBNA and an MBNA Foundation Trustee, added: “Through the MBNA Foundation, we’re committed to supporting organisations and projects that have a positive impact in our communities. Our employees are involved with many worthwhile causes across the region, so we’re very pleased to play our part and contribute to their ongoing success.”
In addition to the community grants, the MBNA Foundation has also provided funding for 120 schools across the North West and North Wales, which have already received a share of around £500,000 to fund ideas that enhance children’s learning environments and support projects that promote education.
