Hull's Spencer Rail wins contract on £150 million Network Rail Scotland infrastructure project
Hull-based rail infrastructure group Spencer Rail is celebrating after being named a principal contractor on the Multi-Asset Framework Agreement (MAFA) for Scotland.
Network Rail has awarded the contract to Spencer Rail with works due to start on August 18.
Spencer Rail CEO David McLoughlin said: “It is with great pleasure that I am able to announce that we have been named a principal contractor on the Multi-Asset Framework Agreement (MAFA) for Scotland by Network Rail.
“I would like to thank everyone who was involved in the tender process – from the PQQ through to the tender itself and the final presentation – for their sheer hard work and determination. We submitted a very strong application and everyone concerned should be very proud of the contribution they made.”
At the tender stage, Spencer Rail was required to demonstrate its expertise in delivering stations, platform extensions, electrification of lines of route and the co-ordination of projects where there is more than one principal contractor on site.
A more clearly defined scope of works will be agreed once the £150 million framework contract is in place. Although the work bank is still being established, Spencer Rail will primarily deliver works of a multi-disciplinary nature with a focus on infrastructure interventions.
Each MAFA commission could cover design, surveys and early contractor involvement in connection with the works, including assisting Network Rail in developing schemes from inception early in the GRIP life-cycle right through to delivery.
This comes as the company’s work at Ipswich and East Kent was recently recognised by Network Rail at its annual partnership awards ceremony in London recently with Spencer Rail winning the large project and collaboration of the year awards.
These accolades followed the UK’s best large project announcement at the Modern Railways Innovation Awards where Spencer Rail was awarded the top prize for its work in remodelling Gravesend railway station.
