Staff in the pink to raise thousands of pounds
Members of staff at Persimmon Homes North Midlands put on their running shoes to raise more than £2,500 to help in the battle against cancer.
The group decided to enter the annual Race for Life and initially set a target of £1,000. However they were overjoyed, not only with their success on the day, but by raising £2,545 for Cancer Research UK with money still coming in.
Two members of staff also decided to make it a family affair by persuading their daughters to take part.
Head of sales Sherrie Hankin, who is based at the Leicester head office of Persimmon Homes North Midlands, was joined by her daughter Isabella Corbally, aged 10, while Daphne Holmes, PA to the managing director, took along her daughter Caroline Holmes.
Other members of staff taking part included regional sales trainer Wendy Menck, office manager Vikki Hurst, sales administrator Emily Cooper, commercial manager Tina Harris and technical planner Amy Watts.
Thousands took part in the event, held at Victoria Park in Leicester, which proved a huge success with the entrants either entering a 5k or 10k race.
Daphne said: “It seemed a little bit ambitious but we all decided to do the 10k. However we agreed we would do a brisk walk, all go round together as a group, and we finished together. It is the first time we have ever done anything like and it was great fun.”
Sherrie added: “We are all over the moon with how it went. Everyone has been so supportive and we cannot believe we raised more than £2,500; it’s fantastic.
“We cannot thank people enough for their support. Events like Race for Life are vital in funding Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer.”
