Investing in homes and the future of Acklam
Work is well under way on a project to provide new affordable housing in the Acklam area of Middlesbrough, after the development was given the go ahead from Middlesbrough Council’s planning department.
Endeavour Housing Association are working with Bellway and the Council to deliver the £1.1million project, which will see continued major investment in sustainable homes in the area.
The new development at Acklam Green will include 16 new eco friendly family homes which will available for rent from Endeavour, with Bellway providing a total of 454 properties for sale and rent. The project will also include high quality environmental works as part of the regeneration.
The project is expected to bring jobs to the area as building work continues until early 2015 and developers are keen to work with local businesses.
The development work is being funded by a £300,000 grant from the Homes and Communities Agency, after a successful funding bid and with the remaining funding from Endeavour Housing Association.
Karen Anderson, area manager at the Homes and Communities Agency, said “We are really pleased to be investing in Acklam, and ensuring that there is a choice of homes for people on different incomes, and specifically those seeking to rent an affordable home. The development is making a real difference to the community.”
Councillor Charlie Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for regeneration, said: “Middlesbrough needs a strong mix of new homes if we are to continue to attract people to the town and secure its long-term future.
“We are committed to ensuring our developments include affordable housing, so exciting developments like that at Acklam Green have an important role to play in the on-going regeneration of the town.”
Emma Speight, director of technical services at North Star Housing Group, parent company to Endeavour Housing Association, said: “We are very happy to be working with Middlesbrough Council, Bellway and the Homes and Communities Agency on this exciting new development, to bring much needed high quality, environmentally friendly homes to Middlesbrough.
“As well as new properties, it’s great to see that the development activities in the area are bringing value to the communities in which we work - our investment in Acklam could result in opportunities for local tradespeople and businesses and employment for local people.”
Rob Armstrong, Bellway sales director, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Endeavour Housing Association and Middlesbrough Council.
“These new homes will complement the existing development and at the same time will respond to the demand for affordable homes in the Acklam area.”
