New College Durham partners with Sainsbury's to launch retail course
New College Durham has teamed up with national supermarket chain Sainsbury’s to launch a new further education qualification.
The Level 3 Business and Retail course, starting this month, is a one year 90 Credit Diploma, giving students hands-on experience as well as an understanding of retail.
Sainsbury’s at the Arnison Centre in Durham will offer students work placement opportunities and first-hand experience of aspects such as the business environment, stock control and visual merchandising.
The retailer will also send guest speakers into the College to talk to students about careers with Sainsbury’s in retail, as well as other areas of the business including human resources and social media.
The 90 Credit Diploma is aimed at school leavers who want the practical knowledge and skills to pursue a career in retail. New College Durham also offers an Extended Diploma in Business (specialising in Retail), and a Foundation Degree in Retail.
Jennifer Fullard, Curriculum Manager for Business and Retail at New College Durham, said: “Retail is a booming industry and is seen as an excellent career choice with good prospects. We are delighted to be working in partnership with Sainsbury’s to give our students the opportunity to get first-hand experience of the retail environment with one of the big four supermarkets. In addition to this, students will also receive first-hand knowledge from those already developing their career at Sainsbury’s. I am extremely excited about this programme and the opportunities it presents.”
