Tyne Met College works with North East businesses to plug skills gap

TyneMet College’s is plugging the national skills with its dedicated construction training facility in Benton specialising in qualifications and training for building services and the construction industry

The college offers hands-on training to help equip young people and adults with the skills that the sector need to build a great career in one of the many areas of building services.

Qualified tutors with a huge amount of industry experience, teach building services trades in excellent facilities, using industry standard equipment.

In this way each individual benefits not only from the College’s skills and knowledge in construction, but also from their outstanding partnerships and relationships with relevant local and national employers.

The figures revealed in the latest RICS UK Construction Market Survey (Q2 2014), show private housing, commercial and industrial sectors are driving strong growth across the whole of the UK.

However, a shortage of blue collar workers (59% of respondents reported shortages of bricklayers) is presenting a challenge to further strong growth in the sector.
