Winter sports insurance
With summer holidays a distant memory people are beginning to think of their winter getaways, with many planning to go skiing. When it comes to booking travel insurance for these holidays, it’s really important to make sure your policy covers any winter sports activities you may undertake as they will not be covered under standard travel insurance.
Beth Macer, travel insurance expert at PayingTooMuch.com says, “Winter sports cover is designed to protect you against activities such as skiing or snowboarding, against loss, theft or damage to any sports equipment you may be carrying for example skis, boots or helmets, and against loss or theft of your ski lift pass amongst other things.
“It is also particularly important to ensure your travel insurance cover you in case of an accident on piste, ensuring medical claims are met including additional expenses, such as needing to be helicoptered to a hospital from the mountainside.
“As with all insurance benefits, there are limitations which vary by provider, so it is always important to check the policy to make sure the right cover is in place for you.
“It is also worth noting that most insurance providers only offer cover for winter sports if you are under age 70. For those over 70, planning a skiing holiday usually requires a more specific type of cover.”
