Manchester United close to 60 million Facebook followers
According to the official club website, Manchester United’s official Facebook page is now approaching the landmark figure of 60 million fans.
The Reds lead the way as the most popular English football club on the social media platform, with 59.9 million ‘likes’.
The club is clearly highly aware of its value as a global marketing tool, and keen to drive its Facebook audience above the 60 million mark.
The website states that: “As soon as the total is reached, there will be plenty of exclusive content featuring United’s first-team stars, including special videos of our Reds v Whites challenges, as well as competitions giving supporters the chance to get their hands on one-off memorabilia”.
According to figures compiled by ‘Caught Offside.com’, Chelsea are the second most ‘liked’ club on Facebook, with 37.1 million. Arsenal are third, Liverpool fourth, with the current Premier League champions Manchester City in fifth place.
Everton take 8th place, one above Newcastle United - with Sunderland ranked at 14th most popular Premier League club on Facebook.
Propping up the table come newly promoted Burnley - for them, the only way is up.
