Essex calls on Mayor of London to help support economic growth
The London Stansted Cambridge Consortium has called on the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson to support economic growth in West Essex and the surrounding areas.
The LSCC joined the Mayor at a London Enterprise Panel (LEP) meeting today. The discussion reviewed plans for growth.
The plans include a proposal to coordinate joint ventures between the Greater London Authority (GLA) and LEP West Anglia to develop infrastructure improvements, Crossrail 2, housing growth and inward investment.
Further development of space for growth in key sectors such as life sciences, IT and digital,
Better labour mobility along the London, Stansted, Cambridge corridor.
In return, the LSCC would encourage the Mayor and LEP to tell the London-Stansted-Cambridge story.
It would also want long-term commitment to the West Anglia development and ensure collaboration between London and its partners such as the UKTI in driving investment into the area.
Cllr Kevin Bentley deputy leader of Essex County Council and Board Member of the LSCC said: “Essex means business but we need London’s support if we are to maximise our potential.
“For example, rail improvements from London through Essex will not only benefit our county but the region as a whole.
“We are asking the Mayor to support and join us in calling for reform so that we can develop a highly skilled workforce and secure economic prosperity in places such as Harlow.”
