Cockertons hosts Dementia discussion
Solicitors from Cockertons in Bakewell are teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Society to raise awareness of dementia and its effects on people living with the disease.
Cockertons is inviting local residents to a free Dealing with Dementia event on November 27 that will focus on reducing the anxiety and financial pressure associated with the condition.
Held at the Medway Centre in Bakewell, the informal talk will be hosted by experts from the firm’s elderly client and conveyancing teams. It will include a Dementia Friends awareness session run by Alzheimer’s Society, which will help guests understand more about dementia and how it can affect those with the condition. Information will also be provided on how individuals can structure their affairs to maintain living standards, whilst paying for necessary assistance.
In addition, there will be advice for carers and the families of people living with dementia about making Court of Protection applications, the payment of nursing home fees and associated issues.
Cockertons’ partner, Suzanne Porter, a specialist in probate and elderly client matters, said: “Receiving the news that you or a loved one has the onset of dementia is a scary prospect, but we want to reassure families help is on hand locally. There are so many different forms of the condition, advice needs to be based on the individual’s circumstances, but as long as they are still deemed to have the necessary mental capacity, proactive steps can be taken to plan for the future.”
Cockertons – a division of Sheffield’s Taylor&Emmet LLP – has been supporting the Alzheimer’s Society, its nominated annual charity, throughout the year. A host of fundraisers have already been organised, from dress down days, to long distance walks and cycle challenges.
The firm’s free Dealing with Dementia event will run from 10am to 12 noon. It will include tea, coffee and cake, plus an opportunity to ask questions of Cockertons’ experts. For further information, telephone (01629) 812613, visit www.cockertonslegal.com or follow the firm on Twitter, @tayloremmet.
