Autism Care Specialists Launch Garden SOS Initiative
Goole’s autism care specialists, Goldcrest House, come to the rescue with a garden SOS programme as they shape up those gardens looking for a little TLC.
For people afraid to prune, scared of entering the shed, and generally scared of tackling the garden, two horticulture enthusiasts, Guy and Mark; residents at Goldcrest House, are rolling up their sleeves and putting their horticultural talents to the test.
Already they have completed a neglected garden project in Goole that required shaping up to ensure it was low maintenance and accessible for the elderly resident.
From clearing foliage, removing stubborn weeds and creating defined borders, and a safe pathway, the duo took just one day to improve not only the garden but the quality of life of the householder by creating an outside space they can now enjoy.
Eileen Smale, activities co-ordinator at Goldcrest House says: “A great day was had. Guy and Mark worked really hard and the level of creativity and attention to detail is simply jaw dropping, the garden looks fantastic.”
Based on Boothferry Road Goldcrest House is a centre of excellence dedicated to addressing the individual needs of adults over 18 affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorder and learning difficulties. It is a residential home that provides long-term integrated specialist day and residential care to meet the varied needs of those who access the service 52 weeks a year; its aim is to be the UK’s quality service of choice.
