Local housebuilder invests £20,000 in Coxhoe Village Green
Local school children have celebrated the completion of an award-winning improvement scheme to Coxhoe Village Green, which was boosted with a £20,000 donation from Barratt Homes North East to Durham County Council, as part of the house builder’s commitment to investing in the local communities around its developments.
The village green in Coxhoe has undergone a complete transformation through beautiful landscaping and the addition of a tall coal mining pit wheel from an authentic colliery, to pay tribute to the area’s mining heritage. The wheel was funded by Barratt, which built The Limes development in the village and is part of the house builder’s continued S106 contributions.
Coxhoe has a long and proud history of coal mining stretching back to as early as 1750.
The village green improvement scheme has already received commendation, winning the ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Improvement of the Local Environment’ award at the prestigious County Durham Partnership Environmental Awards on 13th November. Kerry Moore, Land Manager for Barratt Homes North East commented: “It’s always a pleasure for us to be able to contribute towards a great community, such as Coxhoe, in which The Limes developments is situated. For the funds to be used to improve the village green and produce something physical that everybody can enjoy, makes our involvement even more worthwhile. Children from the local primary school, Coxhoe Primary School, came down and they loved the new green, which is great to see!”
The Limes is an established development in the village of Coxhoe with excellent links to the thriving employment areas of the North East and Durham, which has proven popular with professionals and young families alike. The development has two, three and four bedroom properties available to buy, with prices starting from £114,995.
