Leeds engineering contractor Shanco ceases trading after cash flow problems
Castleford-based ciivil engineering and groundworks contractor Shanco Construction has ceased trading.
According to the Construction Enquirer, the firm ran into payment and cashflow problems and has ceased trading. Shanco had taken a hit due to highly competitive bidding in the region, but at its height it was turning over more than £7 million.
The firm has also been contracted by Wates of its Haribou sweet factory job in Castleford, worked on the Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre and the Oldham UTC.
Shanco was also due to start work shortly on groundworks for a clinical centre at Pinderfields General Hospital in Wakefield.
Sheffield-based accountants The P&A Partnership will be holding a creditor meeting next week to start the liquidation process.
The business began 12 years ago after the two directors, Adrian Doherty and Declan Armour, who had been working together for three years for another construction firm, decided to take the plunge and start up as a reinforced concrete subcontractor.
