Leeds laminates firm secures Sri Lankan contract
West Yorkshire firm, Specialist Laminates Ltd , a division of Unilam Machinery, based in Calverley, has won a lucrative Sri Lankan contract.
Specialist Laminates Ltd has won the order to supply drums of resin solution used to produce laminated glass to its customer CPP Industries.
A specialist team made up of former banking advisors and shipping managers at Chamber International successfully completed a ‘clean’ letter of credit presentation for Specialist Laminates.
Specialist Laminates Ltd, which was created in 2013 as an independent division of Unilam Machinery, distributes products, including resin solutions, and has a £1 million annual turnover.
The business, which has only two staff, currently exports 70% of its sales and has major markets in Asia, Africa, Europe and The Middle East.
Specialist Laminates export sales manager, Dean Raven, said: “Although we have supplied this customer before, I’m new to the logistics side of exporting and did not have the expertise to deal with letters of credit which can be complicated and hinder payment unless you know exactly what you’re doing.
“Chamber International was recommended to me and handled the whole process, enabling us to get paid very quickly.
“They removed a lot of pressure from me, reducing my workload and eliminating deadlines. I will certainly be using them again when we are required to work with letters of credit.”
Chamber International provides comprehensive support to exporters including full letter of credit work, export documentation, sales quotation content, liaising with freight forwarders and insurers and presenting accurate documents to the banks for payment.
The support ensures faster export payments, reduces questions, rejections from banks and frees exporting companies’ time.
Trade services manager, Michealla Platts, said: “After being asked to support Specialist Laminates, we dealt directly their overseas client and nominated freight forwarders.
“The letter of credit covered both an air and sea shipment and allowed, subject to correct presentation of documents, a guaranteed and swift payment which was achieved.
“We’re pleased to have been of assistance and look forward to working with the company again.”
