South Tyneside Council to make decision on £9 million care hub
South Tyneside Council’s will next week consider an application for a new £9 million Integrated Care Services Hub for the Borough.
South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust has submitted the application for the hub following the award of the contract by South Tyneside Council to build the state-of-the-art centre.
The Committee is due to deliver its decision on the hub on Monday, 15 December.
It would house a range of health and social care services and provide high-quality support to older people, their families and their carers from a proposed location at South Tyneside District Hospital.
Councillors will hear that the application includes space for 80 beds, with around 30 older people living on the site and others accessing beds for short respite breaks to support their carers.
The hub is a major part of the Council’s response to the Borough’s ageing population and increasing numbers of people with dementia.
