adept4 gears up for charity challenge
IT services company adept4’s Service Transition Technical Consultant is currently preparing himself for one of the world’s most gruelling physical trials, all in the name of charity.
Paul Platt is steeling himself to participate in Iron Man UK, an intense Triathlon considered to be one of the most demanding athletic events known to man to raise money for the disability charity Scope.
Paul is hoping to raise over £1,000 for the charity, which is committed to making the country a fairer place to live for those with disabilities. He said: “I was inspired to try and raise the money by my growing realisation of the challenges faced by disabled people in everyday life and wanting to do my part to support people facing these challenges. Scope does fantastic work, and I’m hoping to raise significant funding for them.”
No stranger to feats of intense endurance, Paul has recently completed five marathons in five days as part of an event known as Hell of a Hill, which sets runners the challenge of covering 131 miles over five days with an elevation gain of more than 6,000 feet per marathon. Having accomplished this he is now looking for even greater challenges.
Paul came to running late in life when in summer 2006 a friend approached him about running the London Marathon. Paul said: “I didn’t think we could do it, but I agreed to train anyway. After a couple of weeks he quit but I continued to run and caught the bug. In 2007 I did what I thought was impossible and ran the Marathon.”
Since then he has run 21 marathons with an impressive personal best of 3:09 hours and has even completed so called “ultra-events”, running up to 93 miles in one instance. He has another marathon scheduled in Paris in April - all in the build up to the Iron Man UK challenge.
adept4, an IT managed services company which had sales of £4.45 million in 2013, has official partner status with some of the world’s leading technology vendors, including Microsoft, IBM and Cisco, and works in partnership with businesses to provide them with tailored IT systems solutions.
