Selectapension response to last night's Dispatches programme
Peter Bradshaw, National Accounts Director, Selectapension responds to Channel 4’s Dispatches programme on “How to blow your pension”.
“Those at-retirement should understand financial risk, and must be cautious as they have the potential to use up their funds quickly once the pension freedom changes come into force. Channel 4 Dispatches revealed almost half of those over 55 said they intend to withdraw some or all of their money come April. In some of these cases, there will be instances whereby investments offered by some companies may be unregulated and potentially risky. With the right support from Financial Advisers, those at-retirement can avoid making a damaging and poorly advised investment.
“By using technology, Advisers can plan their clients’ retirements precisely in advance, showing how much income can be guaranteed year by year. Investments should be constructed to match clients’ attitude to risk and recorded, leaving an audit trail should any queries be raised in the future.
“At Selectapension our system is ready to include the new products from Providers once they are launched. We expect demand for advice or guidance to be high, and Advisers will need efficient systems to respond to these demands.”
