Lifestyle Centre will contribute to ‘growth and prosperity’ of Crewe says Council leader

The £15 million Crewe Lifestyle Centre will house an impressive range of leisure and community facilities accessible to everyone.

A multi-purpose scheme, it integrates under one roof a number of resident-focused services in addition to traditional leisure and fitness facilities and is due to open in late spring 2016.

An eight-lane, 25m competition-standard pool will offer both competitive and leisure swimming, while an adjoining 17m learner pool will encourage non-swimmers and toddlers too.

A spectator gallery will seat more than 175 people, including wheelchair-users.

A brand new library on two floors will allow users to borrow books, read newspapers and surf the internet in comfort, while the café area will enable customers to relax and enjoy spectator viewing over both swimming pools.

The whole building will extend to 1,000sq metres of core community space plus an additional 500 square metres of outdoor activity space.

Its design incorporates some of the latest building techniques and technology, minimising costs through energy-efficient installations, including solar panels and pool filtration systems.

Council Leader Michael Jones said: “This project reflects the commitment my Council has made to further the growth and prosperity of Crewe, giving the people of the town the amenities they need and deserve all under one roof.

“Crewe is going through a major transformation and this is part of the economic revival of the town, where unemployment has fallen together with the number of young people not in employment, education or training.

“Unemployment in Crewe is down to just 1.3% and there are more new jobs on the horizon, plus the university technical college, contributing to the creation of a new generation of skilled young people.

“Crewe Lifestyle Centre will give the hard-working people of Crewe a place to relax and exercise.”
