Exclusive Interview: Danbro set to double staff, clients and turnover
Lytham based accountancy group Danbro has revealed a five year plan to more than double staff, clients and turnover, the company currently has 185 staff and has just moved to new premises.
Group profit before tax for year ending in March 2014 was £4.6m with the previous year at £3.4m.
Danbro was founded by husband and wife team Damian and Helen Broughton and named after their son, Dan.
The company started in the box room of their family home in 1999, and then expanded into their garage when they had 2 employees, now it occupies more than 60,000 sq ft of office space.
The business now has over 7000 clients nationally and offers umbrella, payroll and traditional accountancy and financial services.
The company’s first employee was Helen’s Aunt Sharon Oldham, and she along with the next two employees still work for Danbro today.
Helen Broughton, co-founder and director of people and standards at Danbro spoke exclusively to Bdaily about what is done differently at Danbro, the challenges faced and the company’s family feel.
She said: “We have faced some big challenges, especially legislative changes:- in our history there have been some game changing ones such as :- IR35; MSC legislation; AWR; Onshore / offshore false self-employment Intermediaries legislation; Auto enrolment; RTI; and currently HMRC travel and subsistence review.
“The easiest thing about doing business is being in charge and working with a great team.
“Our personality is the same as that of a healthy family.
“Family is one of our values and is also our internal brand.
“The industry has changed since we first set up the business, it has become recognised as a business sector in its own right.
“The best of us have thrived on compliant service delivered well.
“The temporary workforce has grown and continues to do so, propelling forward more flexibility for businesses that have had to adapt as technology advances and the economic landscape changed.
“I would say it has been instrumental in the economic recovery we are beginning to see.
“In 2015 we hope to improve our technology and increase our market share.
“The one thing we do differently is we have an old fashioned tea trolley round!”
