Leeds-based security firm win Tour de Yorkshire safety contract
Leeds-based security firm Gough & Kelly has been awarded a contract to provide security for next month’s Tour de Yorkshire.
The security firm, which is a leading provider of security related products and services, has previously worked on a range of large-scale city centre festivals and sporting events, and has current contracts with Leeds United and Castleford Tigers.
The firm is now contracted to provide safety for cyclists and spectators as the stage two races conclude in York on 2 May.
Established in 1989, Gough & Kelly provides security products and services to businesses, local authorities, sporting venues and events and schools, colleges and universities across Yorkshire.
Ian Crawford, group operations manager, said: “Just as it was in last year’s Tour de France, York promises to be an exciting stage in the Tour de Yorkshire. Spectators will have the chance to see cyclists completing full circuits of the city, as well as a women’s race and the stage two finish - all of which makes for a very exciting day.
“Our role is to work with the Tour Makers to man the roads and crossings along the route, keeping spectators and cyclists safe throughout the event.”
Commenting on possibly opening an office in York, Mr Crawford added: “We’ve been working with City of York Council to provide operational security support for two years now, as well as delivering intruder alarms and CCTV monitoring services for several businesses in the area. We’re keen to have a presence in York to support our existing customers and expand our work there.
“The Tour de Yorkshire contract is fantastic and we’re very happy to be working on such a prestigious event.”
