Former F1 World Champion acquires Buckmore Park
John Surtees, a former Formula One world champion, has bought Buckmore Park in Kent.
The karting track, which is where Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button practised as youngsters, has been acquired by Surtees, 81, who won seven world motorbike championships before becoming F1 World Champion with Ferrari in 1964.
John Surtees Ltd, based in Edenbridge on the Kent/Surrey border, has bought the business and assets of Buckmore Park, but the circuit’s former owner Bill Sisley will stay at the track as a consultant.
In a statement on Buckmore Park’s website, the company said: “John Surtees OBE and Bill Sisley announce that agreement has been reached for John Surtees Limited to acquire the business and assets of the companies operated by Bill Sisley at Buckmore Park. The businesses will continue to operate under the same trading names.”
The operation team will continue as before, but with Chris Pullman stepping up as joint managing director with Mike Griffiths. Chris will be responsible for the day to day operations of Buckmore Park.
Mike Griffiths and John Surtees OBE will be responsible for future developments
