Esher tops Rightmove’s rental rich list
Esher in Surrey is the most expensive place in the UK to rent a two-bed property outside London, with mass-migrations out of Greater London contributing to the rising prices.
According to new research from property website RightMove, there has been double-digit growth in rents in some of the most expensive locations as demand for rental property is at a record high.
Rightmove saw a 73 per cent increase in email enquiries sent from home-hunters to letting agents across the country in the year to March 2015.
The average rental cost of a two-bedroom property in Esher has hit £2,000 per month, with the other most expensive areas not far away in South East Berkshire and Oxfordshire.
Surrey takes up nine slots in a list of the top 20 most expensive places to rent outside London.
The two bed average asking rents in both Esher and Oxford are more expensive than outer London, where it is currently £1,493 per month on average, up by 8.4 per cent in the past year and a quarter cheaper than Esher.
Sam Mitchell, head of lettings at Rightmove said: “RightMove said factors including being close to good schools and transport links would always come at a premium, and said the figures showed it would be wrong to think that rental properties anywhere outside of London will definitely be cheaper.”
