South West builder donates cash to help homeless

A leading house builder has donated £1,000 to help homeless people in the Taunton area.

Taunton Assoication for the Homeless (TAH) has received the windfall from Persimmon Homes South West as part of its Community Champions project, which will see a pot of £24,000 being given to support local groups and charities over the next 12 months.

The charity houses and supports individuals aged 16 and above who are homeless and has 16 residences throughout Somerset.

Rosie Hather, of TAH, said: “We are delighted that Persimmon Homes South West chose to support our charity. We make sure that some of the most vunerable in our communities are housed and given the support, advice, training and specialist counselling to enable them to turn their lives around.

“Half of our clients are under the age of 25.

“We are hugely grateful to Persimmon for this generous donation.”

Nina Hester, from Persimmon Homes South West, said the community initiative was a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company works.

She said: “We are very proud to hand over this donation to the Taunton Association for the Homeless, an extremely worthy cause.

“It is wonderful to donate this money for a service that directly benefits and helps people in the local area.”

The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000.

Nina said: “We’ve made it really simple to apply for funding, and we’re urging groups and charities to apply for next month’s donation by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”

Persimmon South West has developments located across Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire.
