Glass Design Studio Working on Secret Project
Poulton Le Fylde based Daedalian Glass Studios have worked on a number of big, prestigious projects in the past but this latest project could possibly be one of, if not the biggest project the company have worked on in their history.
This project is referred to as Project H. It has been described as the “second largest private house in London after Buckingham Palace”. This is the second glass column project we’ve worked on in London in the same year with the other project being at the Lanesborough Hotel. Maybe we should contact Guinness about a new world record for one company.
The Project Itself
The work is in a subterranean swimming pool area where we’re making lead crystal capitals to 40 columns and pilasters. This project requires a very different set of skills and techniques to the Lanesborough Hotel columns recently completed.
With Project H, we are casting lead crystal acanthus and palm leaves, and background diffusers in double curved glass. We are also responsible for the LED lighting.
Here at the Studios, we’re fairly sure that the architecture on this project has never been attempted before, anywhere! The next time you’re outside a bank or a town hall, have a look up at the top of the stone columns and you’ll see the shapes that we’re now casting in glass.
We have been working on this project since February 2014, the first four months were spent developing the shapes for the project architect and interior designer. During this development stage, we used a number of 3D printing and CNC machining techniques for non-glass components.
