York-based Terry’s Chocolate factory to be redeveloped into apartment complex
A former Terry’s Chocolate factory, based in York, is set to undergo a major redevelopment to be turned into an apartment complex.
After visiting the deteriorating site last night, councillors approved plans by Henry Boot Developments and P J Livesey to create 173 apartments in the Grade-II listed building, located near Bishopthorpe Road.
As reported by BBC, the factory, which was built during the 1920s, was branded as being in “structural disrepair” by planning officers, therefore approval for the residential scheme was given.
The property develops, who acquired the factory in April 2013, are also planning to build a large store on the ground floor of the new apartment complex.
Opened in 1926, the factory stopped operations ten years ago when the company moved overseas.
Henry Boot Developments also own four other listed buildings that are on the 27-acre site. As well as developing 14-acres overall, the developers are also working on proposals for the rest of the site.
