North West jewellery retailer, Mococo, wins national award

North West jewellery retailer, Mococo, is celebrating a win at the UK Jewellery Awards, the jewellery industry’s most prestigious awards which recognises industry leadership, dynamic innovation and a dedication to the customer experience.

The UK Jewellery Awards, organised by Retail Jeweller magazine, honours the leading figures in the UK jewellery sector. Mococo, which has stores in Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales, alongside a successful e-commerce site, won the Best Store Environment category at the momentous ceremony at the Tower of London. Mococo was also recognised and shortlisted in the Branded Jewellery Retailer of the Year award.

Leading industry figures judged the Best Store Environment award category, commenting, “This was a competitive category but overall Mococo has the best design to keep customers coming back.”

Speaking about the awards win, managing director, Lee Hooson, said:

“We realise that our customers have a choice when it comes to the stores they visit so we have worked hard to create the most luxurious, welcoming and eye catching store environments to enhance their shopping experience.”

Founder and managing director of Mococo, Maureen Hooson, added:

“In addition to the stylish design of the stores, we include lots of little touches like a Champagne and coffee bar, luxury gift wrapping and chocolate treats to ensure our customers feel special every time they visit us. Jewellery signifies many important moments in our lives and we want our stores to be as special as the experience of buying jewellery is.”

Mococo stores feature swirling regal purple carpets, warm striped feature wall displays, contemporary lighting and a Champagne and coffee bar. Mococo opened its new Chester store this month with added features that include large video wall window displays and larger display cabinets for leading brands including ChloBo, Daisy and new Spanish fashion brand Uno de 50. Additional services provided by Mococo as standard including luxury fragranced gift wrap, Mococo chocolates and an inter-store courier service to ensure each customer’s every wish is catered for.

The nominations in the UK Jewellery Awards follow several years of accolades for Mococo, established by husband and wife team, Lee and Maureen Hooson in 2006 with a £250 startup investment. Both Lee and Maureen were recently named individually in 2014’s Jewellery Hot 100, which honours and recognises the UK’s top 100 leading figures in the jewellery industry. Mococo staff were also winners in the 2014 Retail Stars awards.

Ruth Faulkner, editor, Retail Jeweller, said:

“The UK Jewellery Awards remains the only awards for the industry, judged by the industry and competition this year was extremely tough with a record number of entries received.

“Those who were crowned winners really are the very best at what they do and should feel incredibly proud of their achievements. The Tower of London provided a superb backdrop for the awards this year and guests all had a great night.”

Mococo employs over one hundred staff in stores located in Liverpool, Chester, Wrexham, Birkenhead, Mold, Ruthin and operates a Pandora concept store in Wigan. This month saw Mococo relocate its Chester store, increasing floor space and offering customers more leading designer brands including Michael Kors, Alex Monroe and Uno de 50. Mococo’s online store www.mococo.co.uk has recently been redeveloped and improved following a 314% uplift in online sales in 2014. The family-run retailer has continued to buck the trend throughout the recent recession, and experience unprecedented growth in a sector which saw many businesses struggle.

Managing director of Mococo, Lee Hooson, added:

“2014 was a phenomenal year of growth for Mococo and as we steam ahead into the second half of 2015 it is great to see the momentum continue and be recognised for our hard work. We are proud to receive the award for our achievements to date.”
