Funding boost for Gloucester Girl Guides

A group of Girl Guides from Gloucester have been given a £1,000 fundraising boost.

The grant, from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, was awarded to the 6th Gloucester Guides to help them gain valuable life skills through the purchase of new tents.

The funding was from the builder’s Community Champions initiative to support local good causes and charities throughout the year. The group meet at St Georges Church Hall in Tuffley.

Gail Wager, a Guide leader, said: “We’re very excited about this funding and can’t thank Persimmon Homes enough. It is important to give our girls and young women the opportunities to work together and for others while developing their own skills and having fun too!”

Nicola Reed, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Severn Valley said the Community Champions initiative was a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company works.

She said: “We are so pleased to hand over this donation to the 6th Gloucester Guides. It was clear just how important this group is to the local community and it seemed fitting we did what we could to support them.”

The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.

Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000.

Nicola said: “We’ve made it really simple to apply for funding, and we’re urging groups and charities to apply for next month’s donation by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”
