easyJet hits one million passengers landmark between Newcastle International and Barcelona
easyJet, Newcastle’s largest and Europe’s leading airline, is today celebrating carrying one million passengers between Newcastle International Airport and Barcelona.
Since introducing its first flight to Barcelona from Newcastle just over 12 years ago easyJet has transported one million travellers to the popular European city. The airline flies to Barcelona up to five times a week with prices starting from just £24.24 per person*.
Barcelona is renowned for its vibrant and unique atmosphere, encompassing both modern Spanish culture and the traditional medieval history present in many of its streets and buildings. Home to some of architect Antoni Gaudi’s most magnificent works, such as the La Pedrera and the awe-inspiring La Sagrada Familia Church, travellers can wander round taking in the sights and admiring the distinctive style of his architecture.
Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Commercial Manager, said: “We’re really excited to be celebrating flying one million people between Newcastle and Barcelona today. Congratulations to our millionth passenger Michael Shipley and his fiancée Katherine who were given some free flights on us to celebrate this milestone!
“We have come a long way since launching the first flight to the Spanish city 12 years ago. Newcastle is an important market for easyJet and with routes to 15 sun, city and ski destinations, there is certainly something for everyone.”
Leon McQuaid, Newcastle International Airport’s Aviation Development Manager, said: “We are delighted to celebrate one million passengers on Barcelona and congratulations to the lucky couple who we look forward to seeing back at Newcastle International Airport for their free flights.
“Spain is very popular from Newcastle Airport and it is great to have services to Barcelona. We look forward to seeing many more passengers travelling to this exciting city.”
