UK beats Germany in broadband satisfaction league
The UK is one of the most satisfied EU countries with the quality of their broadband and Internet service, beating both Germany and the Netherlands, a new Pan-European league table from ZyXEL revealed. Following Ofcom’s latest report that one in three UK broadband connections are super fast, the league table supports the findings that Britain’s internet services are finally matching up to consumer expectation.
To determine how content European consumers are with the service from their Internet service providers (ISPs), ZyXEL commissioned research across five European countries, based on variables that ranged from broadband speed and reliability, to the quality of service provided by ISPs in response to poor connectivity. The research produced various benchmarks for each region, which were given a value in order to determine a ‘score’. These scores were collated into a league table of broadband satisfaction across Europe.
While the UK ranked second in the league table and reported the least amount of problems with their Wi-Fi, the Czech Republic outshone all other European regions, both in terms of the ISP’s service and broadband speeds. This lies in stark contrast to Germany, where almost a third (30%) reported their dismay that their mobile Internet connection was better than their Wi-Fi. Furthermore in Sweden, just 5% of consumers felt their service provider offers advice on how to understand advanced features on their home network.
The results leave a clear call for action for ISPs across Europe to ensure they can retain their customer base, while attracting new ones. In the face of fierce competition and rising customer expectations, ISPs must now consider how satisfied their subscribers are, something that manifests itself in more than just the delivery of fast broadband speeds.
President of ZyXEL EU, Lee Marsden, commented: “Our satisfaction with broadband is no longer measured by one factor, but several important considerations that create a smooth and seamless experience for tech-savvy consumers across Europe. By providing the right equipment, advice and proactively anticipating key concerns, ISPs Europe can keep pace with evolving consumer expectations and ensure both customer retention and steady business growth. It is no longer enough to provide a fast internet connection; ISPs must now elevate their offering to provide the personal and value-added service that will set them apart from the competition.”
