Green light for Broadfield Barton regeneration

Crawley Borough has confirmed major improvements to the Broadfield Barton shopping parade have been given the green light.

At a Cabinet meeting last night, the project budget was increased by £50,000 to regenerate the parade, which is owned and managed by local shopkeepers.

The works planned for Broadfield Barton include:

• The repaving of the precinct surface
• Replacement of the existing canopies
• Replacement of the under canopy lighting
• Painting of the existing canopy columns
• Improvements to the CCTV system
• The introduction of a Community Hub in Broadfield Library.

Councillor Michael Jones, Cabinet member for Public Protection and Community Engagement, said: “The council and our partners have long been committed to improving Broadfield Barton.

“While other neighbourhoods have seen their parades improved, Broadfield has had to wait. The time for waiting is over, I strongly believe it is Broadfield’s turn to benefit from this investment.

“Despite the land and buildings being owned privately, this remains a major shopping centre for the town, and we’re committed to improving Broadfield Barton for residents and visitors.”
