Newcastle's Metnor collaborates with Atlas Cloud to drive business improvement
Newcastle-based construction group Metnor has partnered up with cloud solutions provider Atlas Cloud, to drive business improvement through outsourced IT operations.
Atlas, which has UK wide bases including Newcastle, will deliver a fully-managed customised cloud platform, which will enable Metnor staff to access any project information from any device, anywhere in the world.
Metnor is the latest in construction names to join Atlas, which specialises in providing email, applications and data platforms for the construction sector. The company has been working with contractors, architects and the sector’s membership organisations to develop technology to meet the demands and challenges faced by the sector.
In addition to enabling Metnor staff to take advantage of remote working opportunities, Atlas Cloud’s support also allows the company’s offices in Newcastle and Maidenhead to access data from a Common Data Environment, which simplifies file sharing and enables the use of tools and technologies associated with Building Information Modelling (BIM).
Adam Langman, Metnor Finance Director, said: “The introduction of cloud computing at Metnor is revolutionising our business operations by enhancing the way staff are able to work remotely, driving operational efficiency.
“It has afforded us much greater flexibility and boosted productivity by empowering our staff to work anywhere and as a result also has improved customer service.
“We appointed Atlas Cloud because of its breadth of experience across the construction supply chain and, in particular, 3D virtualisation, collaboration and on and offline working. It gives us confidence in their expertise and contacts as well as our future requirements.”
Atlas Cloud is the BIM enablement platform, and has revolutionised the way Metnor Group communicates and collaborates as a business and with clients and contractors, with the company being one of the first in construction to outsource its ICT operations to the cloud.
Pete Watson, Chief Executive of Atlas Cloud, said: “The solution we developed for Metnor Group had specific objectives to increase productivity through real-time communication via technology and operational efficiency through version control on and offline, both internally and with wider contributors. It’s great to see architects, quantity surveyors and contractors communicating on tablets on site.”
“This new way of working at Metnor will substantially increase its productivity with site-based staff being able to access and update 3D modelling or project status documents in real time on an internet-connected laptop or tablet.
“Instead of having to make changes to a physical paper plan then having to return to the office to make the adjustments at a work station, they now can view and edit documents remotely while on site or in a client meeting.”
