iHealth presents CardioLab wireless monitoring for cardiovascular assessment     

iHealth, the pioneer of connected health, launches the iHealth CardioLab, the first connected cardiovascular diagnostics system for early detection of peripheral arterial diseases. With two measuring modules simultaneously positioned on the arm and ankle, this new device provides early detection of arterial disease by measuring blood pressure and calculating of several cardiovascular markers such as ABI (Ankle Brachial Index), MAP (mean arterial pressure), PP (pulse pressure), C/O (cardiac output) and S/V (stroke volume). The iHealth CardioLab gives general practitioners a quick and detailed cardiovascular evaluation that will allow them to anticipate many health problems and switch from curative health to preventive health.

Early detection of peripheral arterial disease

With the medical industry worldwide focusing on converting what is currently a curative healthcare system into a preventive one, the iHealth CardioLab becomes an essential tool as it allows medical professionals to detect abnormalities before they evolve into more serious symptoms. The iHealth CardioLab provides a simple, accurate and efficient way to calculate the risk of PAD (peripheral arterial disease), strokes or infarctus during a routine medical examination. An excellent predictor of peripheral artery disease, the iHealth CardioLab will have a significant impact on health. Indeed, with the iHealth CardioLab the general practitioner can direct patients to a cardiologist or vascular specialist if early stage abnormalities are detected.

A complete cardiovascular evaluation

The iHealth CardioLab allows the GP to carry out various measurements that give a detailed assessment of the patient’s cardiovascular status.

- ABI (Ankle Brachial Index) is the ratio of systolic pressure at the ankle to the systolic blood pressure of the arm. It is the most effective indicator for the screening, diagnosis and prevention of peripheral arterial disease. Typically, this measurement is performed using a Doppler probe. With the iHealth CardioLab, it is now possible to calculate the ABI more easily and accurately in less than 2 minutes.

- MAP (Mean Arterial Pressure) assesses blood pressure that is exerted on the artery walls.

- PP (Pulse Pressure) is the difference between systolic and diastolic pressures and is a strong predictor of heart problems, especially in elderly patients.

- C/O (Cardiac Output) is the volume of blood ejected by the ventricle per minute.

- S/V (Stroke Volume) is the volume of blood ejected by the ventricle with every heartbeat.

These values, ​​calculated from the measurement of blood pressure (systolic and diastolic), are the result of algorithms validated and used by cardiologists and vascular specialists.

“Because of the current differing medical procedures for measuring the ABI (should the doctor use the posterior tibial artery, anterior tibial artery or dorsalis pedis artery?), we decided to unify the results by introducing an oscillometric measuring system to standardize ABI and make it accessible to all physicians,” says Uwe Diegel, CEO of iHealthLabs Europe. “Easy to use, allowing for quick measurement - less than two minutes - with very low margins of error associated with handling errors, the iHealth CardioLab is aimed to be used as a prevention tool by general practitioners to detect problems before they translate into external events”.

To operate the iHealth CardioLab and other iHealth Pro devices, iHealth has created the iHealth Pro App, used on an Apple iPad. iHealth Pro is intuitive to use and correlates the data from the iHealth CardioLab with other risk factors for a better overview of the patient’s health.
