Cameron calls on Asian investors to consider northern cities
Prime Minister David Cameron has called on investors in Southeast Asia to see the cities in the North of England as potentially lucrative investment opportunities.
Speaking on his current overseas tour, Mr Cameron asked Asian investors to see Britain in a “new way” by looking at cities besides London.
In a move that could boost the funds eventually channeled into the formation of the ‘Northern Powerhouse’, the PM said at consumer goods firm Unilever’s Singaporean facility: “I really would encourage you to look at Britain in a new way. There’s plenty of investment opportunities, of course, in London and the South East - London, this amazing global city - but look again at the North.
“From the North Sea to the Singapore Strait, let’s get more trade flowing.”
Mr Cameron was joined in Singapore by Sajid Javid, the business secretary, as well as a delegation of business and civic leaders from across the North of England.
North West companies on the visit include Vernacare, the medical products supplier based in Bolton, and Manchester’s AT Engine Controls.
