School’s not out for NE company this summer

County Durham restoration and high level repair experts, Stone Technical Services (STS), have seen a year-on-year rise in demand from the education sector.

The high rise, lightning protection and specialist maintenance experts are currently working on a range of projects at schools and colleges during the summer break.

The work, all over England, is worth around a quarter of a million pounds to the company.

In the North East, STS Restoration is carrying out boundary wall repairs at Trinity Oakfield College in Newcastle and, in North Yorkshire, STS Lightning Protection is completing a range of tests at the University of York.

In the south of England, lightning protection testing is also being carried out at Bedford School, an independent day and boarding school for boys whilst, in addition, STS Restoration is completing two projects for the Girls’ Day School Trust: - at Ipswich High School, the team is working on the restoration of masonry and three decorative chimney stacks at the Woolverstone Hall building, and at Sydenham High School in south east London, STS is carrying out re-roofing and high level masonry repairs.

STS is a leader in the field of historic, high level and specialist maintenance as well as lightning protection and industrial steeplejack services and comprises four divisions: - STS Lightning Protection, STS Restoration, STS Maintenance and Facilities Management and STS Conservation.

The company is also currently working on a number of high profile projects, including one for the Royal Parks in London carrying out a full bridge restoration at the Serpentine and at Lumley Castle, Grainger Market, Newcastle Civic Centre and with Great Manchester Police.

MD of STS, Dave Stone, said: “Summer is definitely not a quieter spell for STS- it’s the busiest time of year for restoration and maintenance at schools and colleges who contact us many months in advance so that we can help them to plan their repair programmes over the summer holiday period.

“Thanks to our wide variety of skills and divisions, we’re working on a range of complex projects that we can deliver efficiently and in time for the academic year starting again in September.”
