Business Professionals Demand Better Access to Technology
A new survey reveals that, whilst business professionals demand further access to technology in the workplace, they are increasingly concerned that improved connectivity (a result of technology access) is damaging their work-life balance.
CV-Library, the UK’s largest independent job board, conducted the survey to determine how technology in the workplace is impacting the country’s professionals. Over 2,400 people responded across all sectors, revealing workers want employers to offer improved access to technology. Key findings revealed:
86.2% of UK professionals believe being tech-savvy makes them more employable, with Telecoms (100%), Public Sector (96.5%), Consulting (96%), Media (95.5%) and Accounting (95%) feeling most strongly about this 74.5% of workers feel that access to and understanding of new technologies essential to success within their industries Yet only 61.8% feel their employer provides adequate access to necessary technology, and that number drops to 40% for trainees
In addition to this, 68.3% of professionals reveal that they would feel more valued by their employers if they received better access to technology in the office, showing a strong correlation between technology in the workplace and job satisfaction.
Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library, explains: “It’s clear that UK workers recognise a strong correlation between technology in the workplace and being successful in their careers. And by offering improved access to technology, businesses could improve their chances at attracting strong, tech-savvy candidates to their vacancies.”
However, the statistics don’t all paint a rosy picture when it comes to the relationship UK professionals have with technology – workers admit to being increasingly concerned about how better connectivity impacts on their personal lives with 44.7% believing that increased access has a negative impact on their work-life balance.
“As smaller businesses leverage technological advancements to streamline processes, it’s important that they understand how introducing new technology will impact their workforce,” adds Biggins. “Our survey shows that professionals are increasingly concerned about maintaining a work-life balance and responsibility falls on employers to create a positive working environment whenever possible.”
