Former Manchester City player launches Didsbury bar
A new food and drink venue from the team behind Lime Bar in Salford Quays, and former Manchester City player Mike Johnson, is launching in Didsbury.
The George Charles, which opens today (Friday, September 4) and is located on Burton Road, has partnered up with local breweries Red Willow, Brightside Brewing Company, The Tweed Brewing Company and Tickety Brew for its ales and ciders.
The site’s manager, Ben Brown, who previously worked at The Parlour in Chorlton, said: “We looked into the history of the shop because we thought something that old must have an interesting story behind it.
“It’s really quite exciting, I can’t wait to get in and start serving.”
Mike Johnson, the ex-Manchester City footballer, is a partner in the venture along with Lime Bar’s David Vanderhook.
According to The George Charles’ chef, Andy McGann, who also worked at Lime Bar, the menu offers modern European food with an Asian influence, with all produce locally sourced.
