Dreams come true for Bishop Auckland day centre

A day service centre for adults with learning and physical disabilities has been gifted a cash boost by a leading developer.

Dreamcatcher-PSP (Personal Skills Promotion) in Bishop Auckland received the donation from Persimmon Homes Durham; as part of the builder’s Community Champions initiative.

The centre provides support for 25 disabled adults with activities centred around having fun. It aims to give back independence by helping to raise each person’s expectations and potential.

Joanne Ewbank, a day service manager for Dreamcatcher-PSP, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have received this donation from Persimmon Homes and are eternally grateful for their support.

“This £1,000 donation will help kick start our sensory room project, which would become an invaluable resource for us. The sensory room would provide a safe environment where adults with special needs can explore and develop their senses and skills.”

Christine Cooper, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Durham said the Community Champions initiative was a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company works.

She said: “We are so pleased to hand over this donation to Dreamcatcher-PSP and are confident this funding will make a huge difference to those who use and benefit from the day centre.

“We now want to hear from more good causes as we look to allocate more funding over the next month. All we ask is that they have already worked hard to raise money themselves, and we will then match this effort with funding of up to £1,000.”
