10K Run at Aintree welcomes hundreds of runners
Hundreds of runners took part in the Club La Santa Grand 10K Run at Aintree Racecourse on Sunday (20 September).
The race saw runners follow a route within the grounds of Aintree Racecourse, home to the famous Grand National.
Alder Hey Children’s Charity and Claire House Children’s Hospice, the Merseyside based charities dedicated to caring for seriously ill children and their families were the official partners of this year’s race, with runners raising money for the charities as well as their own causes.
Sports Tours International Race Director Graham Jackson said: “We would like to thank everyone for taking part in the Club La Santa Grand 10K Run at Aintree Racecourse and making it a great success. The atmosphere, the supporting crowd and volunteers were all fantastic.”
First to cross the finish line for the third consecutive year was Tesfaye Debele of Leeds City Running Club in an impressive time of 31 minutes and 58 seconds. In second place was Adam Slodowicz of Salford Harriers who finished the race in 34 minutes and seven seconds, followed by Paul Sankey of Liverpool Harriers in 34 minutes and 11 seconds.
There was a new female champion, as Kirsty Longley was the first female to cross the line in 37 minutes and 8 seconds, followed by Vicky Unsworth of Liverpool Harriers in 40 minutes 36 seconds, and Sarah Corroll of Olham and Royton Harriers took third place finishing in 42 minutes 42 seconds.
The race welcomed the Club La Santa Toddler Trot, which saw youngsters take part in a 400m race within the inner section of the course.
Sixt rent a car, one of the leading vehicle rental companies in the North-West were the official vehicle supplier for the race.
